Today, where do you find yourself in the area of your communication with others? How about your financial situation? Your relationship with the Lord? Your mental and physical health? How about your career or business endeavor? Are you satisfied, and filled with peace and joy?
This secret to a better life allowed me to regain peace, freedom, and prosperity in all the areas I applied it to. The major transformation came after I gave my life to the Lord at age twenty-two where I found myself lost, broken, and desperate for change. You can find the full story in my book “Out of Darkness into His Marvelous Light”.
This secret is called Personal Growth. Sadly, most people stop growing after puberty, when they finish school, college, or their trade career. Some stop growing after they achieve a place of authority, when they get married, when they have children, or simply said when they get what they want. After that, there are no more thoughts about growing or better themselves. They let circumstances dictate their fate. This frame of mind causes grief and hurt. Not only to self but also to people around. Are you one of them? Let me tell you, there is no shame to realize the truth or to become honest with oneself. It is the beginning of knowing and finding your true identity.
Growth stoppers can happen when circumstances are hard to bear or something tragic occurred causing trauma. However, I believe that even in the darkest hour, there is something called hope to get you out and bring you back to a state of peace, joy, and prosperity. I remember this saying I heard when I was a kid, “As long as there is life, there is hope”. The key is to believe that this feeling of depression or oppression is not forever. Asking and seeking truth, wisdom, and understanding with all your heart and mind will eventually lead to change, and restoration will take place.
The idea of personal growth starts from the inside out when you take on a new frame of mind, a new perspective on things. When you come to a place where enough is enough. When you are tired to go around that same mountain again and again. When mediocrity and pride are no longer an option. When you put a stop to self-pity. Then this new way of thinking enables you to set yourself up for change. I know, it’s not easy and it will cost you all you have. However, if you go through it without giving up, then the beautiful fruit that is produced in your life will be really sweet 🙂
I find this quote from Viktor E. Frankl to be true:
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves”
So, I encourage you to make a decision to start investing in yourself today where it is most pressing; i.e. your relationships, financial state, mental/physical health, spirituality, career, or business. It is suggested that 3% of our earnings should be dedicated to personal development. If our 3% is low, we can start by reading books on the subject. A library is always a great option. For some, their 3% allows them to hire a life or business coach, take a class or go to an event. As you grow and prosper, you will also be able to increase your ways of learning and training.
The beauty of brain neuroplasticity, a fancy word that means our brains have the ability to be re-wired or changed at any moment and at any age to improve everything from health, and mental well-being to quality of life. Better known as the habits that we form, for better or for worse.
When you take the first step toward improving and embracing change for personal growth, you will be amazed at the doors that open and the opportunities that come your way. The flow of life (God’s providence and His glory) is in constant move. I encourage you to learn to move with it, be discerning and train yourself to navigate it by “Tuning your ears to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding” Prov. 2:2. I encourage you to set yourself up for it and pay the price. It is worth it!
